I am getting a privacy error/notice when attempting to access a database/article.

[This answer covers issues with a Privacy Error Message when accessing the library. If you are having trouble logging in, see this FAQ]

Should you encounter issues with a privacy error message when accessing a database or other resource from the library, try the following: 

OPTION 1: Clear the cookies from your web browser (for all-time). For instructions on clearing cookies for each web browser, see below. 

Chrome

  1. Click the 3 dots at the top right corner of the browser. 
  2. On the pop up box that appears, click "settings."
  3. A new page opens. Look to the left side bar and click "privacy and security."
  4. Click "Clear browsing data" in the middle of the page. 
  5. Click the drop down for time range and select "all time."
  6. Make sure the "Cookies and other site data" option is checked.
  7. Click "clear."

Edge

  1. Click the three dots in the top right corner of the browser. 
  2. Select "settings" in the drop down that appears.
  3. On the left side bar, select "Privacy, search, and services."
  4. Under clear browsing data, select "Choose what to clear."
  5. Check the box for "Cookies and other site data."
  6. Make sure the drop down for time range is set to "all time."

Firefox

  1. Click the three lines in the top right corner. 
  2. Select "Settings" from the drop down menu that appears.
  3. On the left side bar, select "Privacy & Security."
  4. Scroll down to Cookies and Site Data.
  5. Select "Clear Data..."
  6. Ensure that the "Cookies and Site Data" box is checked. 
  7. Click "Clear."

Safari

  1. Open the safari app.
  2. Click "Safari" in the top left of the screen.
  3. Select "Settings" in the drop down that appears.
  4. Click "Privacy" in the dialog box that opens.
  5. Click "Manage Website Data."
  6. Click "Remove All."

OPTION 2: Copy the link for the resource you are trying to access and open it in an incognito/private window. For instructions on opening a private window in each web browser, see below.

Chrome

  1. Click the three dots at the top right of the browser. 
  2. Click "New Incognito Window."

Edge

  1. Click the three dots at the top right of the browser. 
  2. Click "New InPrivate window."

Firefox

  1. Click the three horizontal bars at the top right of the browser. 
  2. Click "New private window."

Safari

  1. In the Safari app, click "File."
  2. Click "New Private Window."

 

When the private window opens in your selected browser, paste the link to the resource into the top bar and hit enter.
